Monterrey, as far as I know.
Anyone Detroiters remember the Goose lake festival in I think 1970? I was to young to attend, but I remember the news clips, and also attended school with the promoter/ owners son. performers included:
The James Gang
Jethro Tull
Alice Cooper
MC5
Chicago
Bob Seager
10 Years after
Mountain
and the Stooges
Now that would have been cool!
Im going to have to say Woodstock since were talking about rock but there were many jazz and blues festivals that were not quite as big but got around there in the 1940s and 1950s

I’d say Monterrey Pop….it was in ’67, I believe
Woodstock wasn’t held until ’69
The KFRC Fantasy Fair & Magic Mountain Music Festival, in June 1967 (two weeks before Monterey Pop, and more than two years before Woodstock!)
Didn’t Montery Pop Festival pre-date Woodstock?
the original woodstock
I’d say Monterey Pop was the first rock festival.
But there were quite a few folk festivals before that.
there were actually a few rock festivals before woodstock! including the Monterey Festival..check out the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_festiv…
hope that helps
Probably the original Woodstock. I don’t think anything like that had been done before, as least not in the states.
