Depends what sort of music you like. Glasto is great, because of the eclectic mix of music on offer; Reading tends to be a little less varied, as does the Download Festival at Castle Donington (AC/DC, Muse and the Foo Fighters rumoured for next years headliners).
T in the Park (Glasgow) is always a good event, and has a more ‘local’ feel to it. A personal favourite is the Cambridge Folk Festival, which is not as full of Aran sweaters as you might imagine; Joe Strummer was awesome, a year or so back.
And finally the V Festival (Chelmsford/Staffordshire) tends to be a little more commercial, especially in the bands who play there, but can be a lot less intimidating for a festival newbie.
Glastonbury and Reading. You won’t get into Glastonbury
