Hi I recently lived in Japan for three months working at a kindergarten through a program at my college and near the end of my stay the small community that the school was in put on a festival like this. About a week before they were practicing the drums and dance and they were nice enough to invite me to try dancing with them. It was one of the best experiences I had of just being welcomed into the culture.
I love the performance of “Ue o Muite Arukou” at the beginning. The whole thing looks like lots of fun. Try kakigori with melon syrup and a splash of ice cold original ramune, very tasty and fizzy.
Hi Kat, I like those fireworks at the end too which they do every year. The light drives the cicada insects nuts and they start flying every which way which only adds to the excitement. We attended another festival last night where they exploded large fireworks immediately over the heads of the crowd. It was so thrilling (dangerous too I suspect) to be so close to those exploding rockets! I hope that you have a chance to visit Japan in the future and see more of this for yourself. –Kurt
I loved the shower of sparks at the end, I’ve never seen anything like it , except in the movies. I’m so envious, being unable to learn those dances!!! ~Kat
Thanks for watching and commenting. The little girl pretending to be a prize-fighter is my daughter, Emily. Emily was having no luck getting my attention (I could see nothing through that mask) and therefore she resorted to a one-two punch to the stomach which certainly did the job. Thanks again for watching! -Kurt
