It’s a treat to hear this, but if you’ve never heard the studio version, it’s one of the sultriest things on vinyl. And the sweet ghost of Mississippi John Hurt floats over the whole thing…
THANKS, Taylor–for posting this! Great to see and hear them. I wondered about the Kweskin members and there was some history of an odd cult in Boston begun by one of the members who had the realization he was god. Apparently someone else with that self-appointed title once tried to make it up to their tower redoubt but did not usurp in that attempt. Shame they stopped doing music but their loss was maybe Dan Hicks’ gain… Best2All
Wow. Great stuff! I remember her. We were playing in a bluegrass band, in the 70s and coming back after the gigs, as the sun was coming up, and we all would listen to her album, and Mississippi John Hurt’s stuff too as we sat around and discussed the evening. As a banjo player, I was always interested in what Bill Keith was up to as well.
No, the date is right. It rained the entire weekend, and precious little of the tape has survived. I think that I may even have the program book from that festival.
He used a light guage wire rope for the string and had a glove on the hand that worked the lever ( if that’s what you call it…) His foot held the tub down with a short piece of stick to keep a gap between the tub and the floor for sound circulation. I had one too… Copied his. Handles had to be removed so they wouldn’t vibrate.

Sounds great this blues, a gifted singer she is.

Date seems off to me. Seems like late 70′s no? 78 perhaps?
yeah, hard to realize sometimes that good music was played in the 80′s. Life outside of the self-absorbed video nonsense…
Wow, Maria has such a great voice.
Great band too.

It’s good to know that good music was being played in the 80′s. All that commercial rubbish left me cold. Thanks for posting this video.

Sweet. Thanks for this post. Maria just gets better, too. Twenty years later, she’s twenty years more soulful.
Rest in peace, Fritz.
