Salaam, Khoobi !
Fascinating. Loved every thing you’ve mentioned, also the links, loved’em all. I really appreciate the time and effort you’ve put in this. I’m certain, there’re lot of people who will enjoy this and get informed a bit about our country. Don’t worry about some of these clowns with weired and repugnant responses. There’re lot of good Americans who get the points and are comprehensible, however there’re lot of fu**heads among them as you can observe in some of the responses who are total jerks and are completely blinded by nationalism and think they’re better than every body and every nation!! F**em, not worth paying attention to those kinds. I came to Iran few years back after 20 years being abroad and loved every Minuit of it. Spend three months with friends and family and travelled a lot, specially ‘SHOMAL’. Amazing time i had and amazing GIRLS! wow, it was awesome! Tehran was totally changed and lot more modernized. You’re definitely on the money, those westerners who don’t know Iran, won’t conceive how it is. OK, take a good care of your self and keep up a good work!
PS. I’m really impressed with your English and writing. Hamah ro beboos!
A fascinating read, but is there a question in there somewhere? Unless there is something you want answered, you’d probably get better views getting it published in print instead of posting it on here where it will be drowned out by other questions in half an hour.
And by the way, that took way longer than 10 minutes to read.
I was very interested in reading your “essay” until i came to the part where you say ” ruled by freaks (Taliban)”. I then had to question your motives as you are intent on informing people on your culture but condone the culture of others. Your writing is otherwise informative but I would suggest you keep personal views of other cultures out of your writing. Best of luck to you.
Very well written. I agree with you on alot of points, and I think it is really impressive that you took the time to research and backup your point of view.
I spent 8 years in the Marine Corps. 5 months of that was spent in Iraq & Kuwait during the war. I am also a republican, and while I think the war sucks, I also believe we have to finish what we have started.
Just as you hope the news will not persuede us to hate you, I hope you do not think that we all believe what we see on the news. When I returned from Iraq, my mother showed me some news clips she had taped of the war. I had to tell her that the war I was in was nothing like that. The news never showed the Iraqi people hugging the soldiers, or the children holding our hands and showing us their toys. The news is like a bad sitcom. They are all about ratings. The more shocking and horrifying the story and the pictures the better.. or so they think.
Americans have alot of pride for our country, and shame for the political decisions that are based on greed, selfishness, or to hide mistakes. In many ways we are alot alike. Don’t believe that we hate you because we do not. There are a few people who can’t think for themselves and believe everything on the news, those people are not worth worrying about.
wow that was tiring but very informative…i agree that the media distorts news to better their ratings…….and i hope other countries don’t judge us by our president…..and i can’t wait for a democrat to get in office so they can fix the mess bush has made of our country
TLDR. Iran would make a great parking lot for tanker trucks and pipelines. We are considering annexing it post nuke and calling it East Texas. Thanks for coming along.
thanks for writing such a wonderful article, it is very informative,I also feel you are trying to get across to us what I have been tryng for ages to do and that is to not believe any thing a politician says or they read in the new;s media or see on T,V, as every thing they will show you is what they want you to see and believe, usually if you believe the oppisite of what our politicians and new;s media says you will be more on target than from what they say.(example), a few years
back we were told how bad those damned Chinese were
they killed pople just for looking at them wrong, now that we are friends with China , they are reallly good people, how come now and not then??they had more people in prison than we had population, truth is America has more people inprison than China doe’s and they have 10 times as many people as America, same with North Korea. and Saddam Hussein, he was going to destroy the world with his nukes and biiological weapons, where the hell are those weapons? the list goe’s on and on, is it the same with Iran probable so,
our unconditional support of Israel has caused America more problems and enemies than anyone thing America has ever done, when I was in Lebanon I asked my commanding officer why we were suppporting such a evil regime,( he said shut your mouth before you get innto trouble??) the American people don’t know what is going on and only hear one side of any story, and of course that is the side the new’s media and gov, wants them to hear, if the truth was known our people would probable hang our congress, senate, president and new;s media, please try to get this into more sites and publications many of our people are waking up with the advent of the internet, and don’t get discouraged by some of the answers you have gotten as these people have been brain washed into believing every thing they read or hear.
Heather have you looked up the statsticts for how many men America has executed? and how many they found out after they executed them then found out they were not guilty ??
that’s a lot of reading…
anyways…
i never feared anyone who i have never met… and it’s wrong to hate a group cause of an action of a person or a small group within the big group
i think that everyone who fears/hates iran, iraq or any country in the middle east are just ignorant and listen to the lies too much
How often are you going to post this propaganda of yours – it is starting to get old and disturbing.
You are helping to make more enemies for Iran instead of doing good to touch the hearts of people. And the biggest reward is when you have touched and softened the hardest heart…..but this is not helping your cause…sorry!
Oh yeah I forgot to say, “your essay stinks, students in Middle School here could do better”!
I really, really liked your article. I hope no one flags it because it is so long. I think more people should read it.
So many people in the US just sit there and absorb what the media tells us. I like to watch Canadian world news on cable tv because at least there we see what else is going on in the world. There could be a horrible drought killing thousands of people in Africa, and US news plays a story about a kid falling down a well. Too much bias and not enough reality. Too much editing in what they want us to see.
I am thankful the internet gives people across the world a chance to bond and learn about each other. Hopefully you will find a place to display your essay for more than just a few hours.
There was a song by Sting called “Russians” during the ‘cold war’. It said “I hope the Russians love their children too”. It’s about the population of the country not reflecting what it’s leaders are saying. Good song – I think you’d find it on Rhapsody if you haven’t heard it.
Thanks again. I’m giving you a star too
OK then tell him and all his young people to take control of the country……. Its still being ran by old F**k Ups. P.S. What the heck does a satellite dish have to do with any of this?
Your article is a lot of opinion…for example I am POSITIVE that every single house DOES NOT have a satellite, many? yes, all? no. Just by saying that you discredit the rest of the article. I don’t have anything against the people of your country, but your government is very scary. Here is some research I did….
Human rights violations in Islamic Republic of Iran can be said to derive from two elements;
Firstly, traditional Islam and the Sharia law: The historical petrification of Sharia law by some cultures/regimes has allowed for significant gender inequality, homosexual persecution, as well as other internationally criticised practices such as stoning as a method of execution. Furthermore, in Iran, a mentality of fatalism established through the practice of Shia Islam also helps less educated elements of the public disregard violations by attributing them to fate.[1][2]
Secondly, the Iranian government itself, in its continual drive to secure its own political power base, as well as to maintain centralised control over a fragmented multi-ethnic society, disregards human rights where it sees it as politically useful. This usually takes place when dealing with minorities, or with protests that are critical of the government.
[edit] The civil code
Discrimation between men and women in the Iranian civil code
The Iranian legislation being strongly influenced by the precepts of Islam, it consolidates the supremacy of the man, which is shown in different articles of the Iranian civil code:[6]
Excerpts:
Article 906 : if the dead man has no offspring, the totality of the inheritance belongs to his parents. If both the parents are alive, the mother receives 1/3 and the father 2/3 of the inheritance. If the mother has a hojab (relative who reduces her part, article 886), she shall receive 1/6, the rest belonging to the father.
Article 920: if the dead man’s heirs are brothers and sisters of the parents or of the father, the part of the inheritance belonging to the men is twice that belonging to the women.
Discrimination against women in the law and in practice: a woman is granted half the inheritance of a man, like its counterpart in penal law, where a woman’s life is worth half the life of a man. A woman also needs permission from her father or husband to travel.[7]
Article 907 : when there are multiple children, the inheritance of the sons is twice that of the daughters.
Article 911 : for grand-children, the inheritance is divided according to the 1:3 ratio between grand-sons and grand-daughters.
In December 2002, Ayatollah Shahroudi, head of the judicial system, supposedly sent judges a memorandum requesting the suspension of stonings and asking them to choose other forms of sanctions. However, legal dispositions regarding the death penalty by stoning remain in force
Freedom of Expression
[edit] Freedom of the Press
A Reporters Without Borders report indicates permanent restriction of the press and denounces an application of censorship found to be systematic. Iran is one of the ten most repressive countries of the world concerning freedom of the press
100 newspapers and other publications have been closed by the regime since April 2000. There are currently 10 journalists in prison. Reporters Without Borders considers Iran to be “the biggest prison in the Middle-East for journalists”.
Since January 2003, several webmasters and surfers have been arrested
Reporters Without Borders also believes that it is the Iranian “government’s desire to rid the Iranian Internet of all independent information concerning the political opposition, the women’s movement and human rights”.[15] Where the government cannot legally stop sites it uses advanced blocking software to prevent access to them.
Irreligious people
Irreligious people in Iran are not recognized as citizens. While Jews, Chritcians and other minorities have the right to take part in University entrance exams and can become members of parliament or city councils, irreligious people are not granted even their basic rights. Most irreligious people, however, hide their beliefs and pretend to be moslems. Non-believers – atheists under Islam do not have “the right to life “. In an attempt to disguise the Islamic attitude to apostasy, some muslims often quote the Koranic verse: “There shall be no compulsion in religion”. For a Muslim wishing to leave Islam in Iran this is simply not true and is punishable by death.
Regarding rape, the female is at fault by default.
Post-pubescent women are required to cover their hair and body in Iran and can be arrested for failing to do so.
In Spring 2007, Iranian police have launched a crackdown against women accused of not covering up enough, arresting hundreds of women, some for wearing too tight an overcoat or letting too much hair peek out from under their veil. The campaign in the streets of major cities is the toughest such crackdown since the Islamic revolution.
In 2004, Iran ranked second in the world by total number of confirmed executions having carried out 159, coming behind the People’s Republic of China, who committed at least 1,770.[44] In 2005, the number dropped to 94 confirmed executions, either by hanging or stoning.
And ALL of that IS RECENT information. I don’t believe your propoganda.
Dear friend,
I love your article. It is great. I don’t think anything bad about Iranian or Iran, in fact I believe the world political leaders enjoy instilling fear and lies into our heads, unfortunately most americans are too blinded to see the truth. That you are not a threat to us at all, the biggest threat to us is our own government and our own ignorance. Please send this to Alex Jones at Infowars.com or Prisonplanet.com. We are truth speakers trying to spread a message that the media is biased and feeding us propaganda. Send your essay to everyone, post it here a hundred times. Thank you,
you seriously brought tears to my eyes. I hope and pray that Ron Paul becomes our president to stop these wars and pre-emptive strategies that most government officials are trying to enforce.
Thank you again.
You are beautiful people!
listen…! you have a “luny” for president ok?http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/10/2…
ANY nation that says it wants to “wipe out” another is NO good!..ok?
also even thought Russia offered nuclear material for a civilian plant you guys want to enrich uranium and turned away the low grade stuff offered by the Russians…I wonder why?http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/meast/06/0…
why? because to make a nuke warhead you need high grade uranium and NOT the low grade used only in a power plant.!
and that is what your crazy president wants, nuke weapons that WILL lead to a world war, the minute he follows through with his dream of “whipping the Jews” off!
and this is why Iran IS a treat to the world today! a country with a nut at the helm that wants nuke weapons to use them!!!!!!!
It’s too long, I would never bother reading it, I don’t like links, and Iran is worth fearing because it’s leader is a whack job who wants to kill anyone who isn’t as nuts as he is.
