Probably not the kind of music festival you’re after, but Newcastle/Gateshead have a big music festival, normally in August, called WOW (Windows on the World), and it features so many different events and free gigs across the Newcastle/Gateshead area. It’s not a camping festival like V & Glastonbury, but it’s well worth checking out. Music varies from big name chart acts to local stuff, and there’s a wide variety of music from around the world.
Electric Picnic in Ireland is a boutique music festival just about to present its 4th year. It is not cheap cheap at 200euro a ticket but it is camping only, runs for 3 days and has a really eclectic range of acts. The organisers principle is that you should be able to get a decent meal for €5 from all the food stalls. last year it rained but if you come prepared it should be grand. It is the last festival of the year too, the first weekend in September.
This year The Beastie Boyz, Chemical Brothers, Magic Numbers etc etc etc. Check out the website http://www.electricpicnic.ie
Be quick though, the tickets run out fast and are on sale now.
In past reviews it has been voted the best small music festival in Europe.

Why do you object to paying for someone else’s work? They practice hard to perfect their art. You should not be looking for a free ride.
